Debre Libanos suffered great destruction during the invasion of Ahmed Gragn when one of his followers, Ura'i Abu Bakr, set it on fire 21 July 1531, despite the attempts of its community to ransom the church. Stop At: Portuguese Bridge, Near the Blue Nile Water Fall, Debre Libanos Ethiopia

it was actually built at the turn of the 19th century by Ethiopians, albeit in the old Portuguese style. The narrow span makes a pretty picture and the gushing (in the rainy season) cascade just below it is even more impressive.

This 9 hours excursion (extra 1 hour for lunch) takes you to one of the oldest and remarkable monasteries of Ethiopia. The monastery complex sits on a terrace between a cliff and the gorge of one of the tributaries of the Abbay River. None of the original buildings of Debre Libanos survive, although David Buxton suspected "there are interesting things still to be found among the neighboring cliffs." Current buildings include the church over Tekle Haymanot’s tomb, which Emperor Haile Selassie ordered constructed in 1961; a slightly older Church of the Cross, where Buxton was told a fragment of the True Cross is preserved; and five religious schools. The cave where the saint lived is in the nearby cliffs. The Portuguese Bridge, The Jemma River are also the other attractions included on this program.

Depart Addis Ababa. Debre Libanos is one of the best day trips from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The monastery and church northwest of the city have played an important role in Ethiopian Orthodox Christian religious history and are reminders of Ethiopia’s struggle against the Italian occupation. In addition to its religious significance, Debre Libanos impresses all visitors with the surrounding landscape. Debre Libanos is located directly on the escarpment looking down into the canyon, providing spectacular views – a perfect location to stop and enjoy the surroundings. In addition, a short walk leads to the so-called Portuguese Bridge, which was built around the turn of the 20th century. The bridge spans the small Gur River which, just a few meters farther, pours into a 600 meter high waterfall down into the canyon. Late afternoon, drive back to Addis Ababa.

During the day tour in Addis, you will be able to see Merkato,Entoto mounain,National museum & Silassie cathedral church

Duration: Full day

The largest city of Ethiopia and its capital city at the same time is Addis Abeba, which in Amharic means "a new flower". It is located in the center of the country, 2400 above the sea. It is one of the highest-located capital cities in the world. According to many sources, Addis Abeba is third in such classification, after Bolivian La Paz and Ecuador's Quito. However, La Paz is not an official capital city of its country, so we can move the Ethiopian city up to the second place.

We present the one-day visit schedule. if possible, we can include some other attractions of the capital city of Ethiopia.

Before noon

Visitng Addis Abeba will begin with seeing the orthodox cathedral of the Holy Trinity. It is the most important church in Ethiopia. In this church, there is a mausoleum of the last emperor of Ethiopia - Haile Selasje. his wife is also buried there. Then, we will see the National Museum, that is said to be one of the most important museums in whole Sub-Saharian Africa. 3,2 million-years old bones of our grand grand .... ancestor - Lucy, are one of the most famous exhibit of their collection. The attention of visitors is drawn by a rich collection of insignia of emperor and churches, costumes and weapons. The oldest exhibits are rock sculptures and inscriptions from the times of Queen Saba, found near Aksum  and in today's Eritrea.

The ethnographic museum, that is a next stop on our trip in Addis Abeba, is located in the University. It was found and managed by Polish scientists, professor Stanisław  Chojnacki. Probably the most interesting part of the exhibition is a collection of crosses and icons. The museum should be visited by amateurs of folklore instruments, since the collection of them gathered in the museum is impressive.

The lunch break will take place in the restaurant serving Ethiopian dishes and local beer. e.g in "Ambassador" with a large garden.

Afternoon

After lunch, we will climb the Entoto hill located 3200 m above the sea. Here located was the capital city of Ethiopia, before Menelik II moved it to Addis Abeba. The king's palace remained until today. The local museum exhibits crowns belonging to kings and church, costumes and insignia.

The final attraction of the day in Addis Abeba will be a trip through Merkato, which is believed to be the biggest marketplace in Africa.

After visiting, we will escort you to the chosen hotel or to the airport.
